How cool is this place?
Cartel del Taco in Hawthorne is one of my favourite taco joints, full stop. It’s a proper Mexican street taqueria - bold, loud, and the kind of spot that just gets it right. They reckon it’s some of the best tacos in Queensland, and on the strength of a lunch there, I’m not going to argue.
Best part for a bloke on a Harley? Bike parking right out the front. Pull up on Hawthorne Road, park the bike where you can keep an eye on it, and walk straight in. Bring your cholo, your bedroll, and all - it’s that kind of place.
The food is delicious. The standout for me was the guacamole with the added pork chicharron - amazing. Crispy pork through fresh guac is a combination I didn’t know I needed. Round that out with a couple of Mexican beers off the tap and an assorted plate of tacos, and you’ve got yourself a cracking lunch.
The fit-out is all part of it - a wall of black Mexican skulls, tiles, that vibrant taqueria-and-bar feel. Cool vibe from the moment you walk in.
If you’re rolling through the east side of Brisbane and you’re hungry, this one’s an easy call. Worth the visit.
